ROE. Rules of Engagement. Just because you see something, doesn't mean you shoot that something. The enemy squads I'm worried about, are the ones that are disciplined to flank behind us, and despite having all kinds of assets in the area, they never fired a shot. The first time we knew they were there, was when we heard and felt an explosion on the base, when the doors starting getting blown up. That's a squad that observes ROE and are disciplined to follow it. We could easily bridge part of the gap to be like that enemy squad, if we would simply observe ROE. DO NOT FIRE UNTIL FIRED UPON, or until spotted and it's advantageous to shoot immediately upon discovery. Squad leader should establish ROE before battle. When in doubt or if we forget, squad members should re-verify ROE before simply shooting at targets not directly threatening the squad.

Designated roles. Ensure a designated primary, and secondary medic (and indeed all other roles). Doesn't mean you can't have 3 or 4 defibs in the party. But without having a primary, we risk every single person not actively busy shooting, will start to put their weapon away and leave their firing position to go revive. Suddenly everyone is a medic, because no one was designated as primary and secondary. Not a good plan. Understandable if a non-medic drags a teammate back into cover, but then they may should start covering and shooting again while the medic arrives to revive/heal. This way the most qualified squad member is reviving, all things being equal. Also this reduces some of the danger the medic is normally in, to drag people away constantly - definitely worse for a medic when we run out of smoke grenades.

Small side tip - situational - if there is time, and multiple enemies are spotted who you are about engage, SL/FTL should attempt to designate who is shooting at 1st on left, 1st on right, middle, etc. Everyone will first down or force to ground each of their targets, before moving onto another target. This prevents half of your squad shooing at only 1 or 2 guys, while the enemy squad still has most of their squad untouched and not suppressed.
